Establishing an SSP Profile.
For newly recruited USPS personnel, it is essential to first create an SSP password to access the LiteBlue system. The USPS’s Self Service Profile (SSP) serves as the gateway for USPS employees to manage their login details for all USPS Self Service web applications, including LiteBlue, PostalEASE, eIdeas, eOPF, and eReassign.
Upon joining USPS, a letter containing a temporary SSP password will be mailed to you within approximately 10-14 days. This temporary password cannot be utilized for logging into LiteBlue or other HR Self Service applications. The initial step involves visiting www.ssp.usps.gov to replace your temporary password with a permanent one. This is done by logging in using your employee ID and temporary password, which also allows you to update your contact email or security questions.
Identifying Your USPS Employee ID.
Your Employee ID is a unique eight-digit code, prominently located at the top of your earnings statement. This ID, along with your self-service password, enables access to various self-service web applications.
Creating or Resetting Your LiteBlue Password.
The SSP Password is crucial for accessing self-service web applications since its introduction in April 2014. If you need to establish or reset your password, assistance is available through a link on the LiteBlue login page or by directly clicking here. Should you forget your password, simply click the ‘Forgot Password?’ link under the login fields, enter your eight-digit Employee ID, and follow the steps to obtain a new password.
Troubleshooting LiteBlue Login Issues.
If you encounter login issues, verify that your Employee ID and SSP password are correctly entered. Ensure there are no typos, and that CAPS LOCK and NUM LOCK are disabled if you are using a computer. Note that SSP passwords and ACE passwords are distinct, and the USPS PIN is only applicable for Self Service IVRs, not web services.
LiteBlue SSP Password Requirements.
A LiteBlue SSP password must include at least one character from three of the four following categories:
- Numbers: 0-9.
- Lowercase letters: a-z.
- Uppercase letters: A-Z.
- Special characters: ! @ $ % ^ * _ + ~.
Other special characters are prohibited, and it is crucial to remember that LiteBlue passwords are case-sensitive.
In some instances, accessing your account may be hindered by technical difficulties or maintenance on LiteBlue or the USPS extranet. If such issues arise, attempting to log in at a later time is advisable. Maintenance and server issues are typically temporary, and employees are usually notified in advance.
For those experiencing issues with the Opera or Firefox browsers, trying Internet Explorer or Google Chrome might resolve the problem. Updating your browser to the latest version could also help, especially when using mobile web browsers to access LiteBlue, as no dedicated mobile app is currently available.
USPS’s Implementation of Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA).
To bolster security, USPS has mandated the use of multi-factor authentication (MFA) for accessing the LiteBlue employee portal. MFA adds an additional layer of protection by requiring more than one verification method to log into an online account. For LiteBlue, this means a password and a one-time passcode sent to the user’s mobile device.
This move towards MFA is aimed at safeguarding employees’ IDs, passwords, and personal information from unauthorized access, aligning with the security practices of banks and other entities handling sensitive data.
